Combining studies and a passion for sports
The FH Kufstein Tirol and the Pirlo Kufstein Towers basketball team offer students an attractive scholarship. Interested students can study at the university and play in the professional men's basketball team of Kufstein. Many benefits and perks await the chosen students while they pursue their athletic careers.
Success in studies and sports
The cooperation between the Kufstein basketball team and the FH Kufstein Tirol offers many benefits to all students of the 24 degree programs. Each season, the cooperation partners award two scholarships to enrolled students of the university. The selected students’ tuition fees are reimbursed by the university for their sporting talent. The basketball club covers the cost of housing in a shared room and a relevant insurance for sports activities. "In addition, we offer the players free access to the gym and food allowances and of course our medical team is always at their side," says Mag. Michael Pilger, MSc, chairman of the Kufstein Pirlo Towers.
Commitment to the Towers
Two students of the FH Kufstein Tirol are already a part of the basketball team and the current scholarship holders. They train four times a week for a game on the weekend, plus two training sessions in the gym. The compatibility of student duties and professional sports is comparable to the combination of working a job and studying.
Dusán Oluic, a bachelor's student in Energy & Sustainability Management, shares how he attempts to keep the balance between his studies and basketball: "You can say it's like a real job, but I never thought of it that way. Basketball is something I really enjoy and love to do. I can't imagine my everyday life without the sport. In my studies, we deal with very interesting and current topics related to sustainability. My fellow students and the teachers are great, which makes the whole study experience even more pleasant. The course schedule and training times fit together perfectly, so the mix of sports and studies in Kufstein is ideal for me."
Teammate Daniel Filipović, a master's student at Kufstein University, has been on the basketball team since fall 2021: "For me, the combination of my passion for basketball and the optimally coordinated study plan was decisive. The master's program Sports, Culture & Event Management was the best decision for me and will continue to offer me the best conditions to pursue a sporting and diverse career in the future."
Securing the scholarship for the next season
Those interested can still apply for a scholarship now. The first requirement is a study place at the FH Kufstein Tirol. Those interested in a Bachelor's degree can still apply online until May 22nd, 2022, and those interested in a Master's degree until June 23rd, 2022. The application process to study at the FH Kufstein Tirol is independent from the application for the Scholarship - both hurdles have to be mastered athletically. The application for the scholarship to the club includes an application letter with a current highlight video of one's athletic ability. The application process continues with the selection and awarding of the Scholarship by the Pirlo Kufstein Towers. "We are pleased to be able to award two Scholarships again next year and wish you every success with your application," said Prof. (FH) Dr. Thomas Madritsch, Managing Director of the FH Kufstein Tirol.
