28 students from the Sports, Culture & Events Management (SCEM) master’s full-time program of the University of Applied Sciences Kufstein organized a successful study trip to Sarajevo from the 15th to 19th of April 2024.

The capital city of Bosnia and Herzegovina is known as the host city of the 1984 Winter Olympic Games as well as the 2019 European Youth Olympic Winter Festival (EYOF). During the trip, the students visited various organizations in the field of sports, culture and events.

The students organized the entire trip, from choosing the destination, contacting organizations, arranging meetings with speakers and planning side events. The group received great support from Prof. (FH) Dr. Stura Claudia and Asc. Prof. (FH) Mark Romanelli, MBA, who joined the students on the study trip.

Professional Encounters and Cultural Exploration

During the trip the students got the opportunity to meet many professionals working in renowned organizations. These included meetings with the director of the Sarajevo Photography Festival, Mrs. Aida Redzepagic, who was very passionate about her work and inspired many of the students. Dr. Said Fazalagic, Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee of Bosnia and Herzegovina gave us valuable insights into the organization and management of the national Olympic committee. Mehmed Hasanagic talked about the importance of the Sarajevo National Theatre and his job as a producer. Furthermore, the Winter Festival, the Olympic Museum, the National Museum and the Sarajevo Film Festival were visited.

Through the interactions with these professionals, the students gained valuable insights into their planning, issues and working. Along with these meetings, the students also organized a city tour, visited an Opera Premiere at the National theater and tried the local foods Cevapi and Burek.
