If you apply for the International Program, we recommend that you also apply for the International Student Residence.

Living off-campus

If you prefer to live off-campus, you can search for accommodation in Kufstein and the surrounding area. For private rooms or apartments, numerous accommodation platforms provide useful information.

Be sure to also consult the Austrian Student Union's (ÖH) recommendations when searching for housing.

Insurances

Short-term stays (under 6 months)

As a rule, a travel health insurance (valid in Austria with sufficient coverage) is sufficient.

Students from EU/EEA countries or Switzerland

Valid statutory health insurance in your home country + European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) = access to the Austrian public health care system.

No valid statutory health insurance?

Degree-seeking students can take out insurance with the Austrian Health Insurance Fund (Österreichische Gesundheitskasse). Student self-insurance costs around EUR 70 per month. The main requirements are a place of residence in Austria and a confirmation of admission from the higher education institution.

Information on insurance can be found on the OeAD information page.

Students from third countries

Third-country nationals must present an "all-risk health insurance policy" (with a cover of significantly more than EUR 30,000.-) in order to obtain a residence permit.

Travel health insurance is only sufficient as a stopgap until you take out "all-risk health insurance" after entering Austria. Regular students can insure themselves with the Austrian Health Insurance.

Self-insurance for students costs around EUR 70 per month. The main requirements are a place of residence in Austria and a confirmation of admission from the university.

Information on the appropriate insurance can be found on the OeAD's Entry and Residence information page.

Austrian Student Union (ÖH) accident and liability insurance

Automatic accident and liability insurance through your ÖH membership.

Working in Austria

EU, EEA or Swiss nationals

EU, EEA or Swiss nationals have free access to the Austrian labor market and do not require an official work permit.

Third-countries students

Students from non-EU countries who are in Austria on a student visa must apply for a work permit through the Arbeitsmarktservice (AMS) in order to take up employment. The work must not interfere with their studies, which is the main reason for their stay. They may work up to 20 hours per week. If this limit is exceeded, a labor market test is required.

Upon successful completion of their studies, third-country nationals may extend their "student" residence permit for up to twelve months in order to seek employment or start a business. This extension is subject to the fulfilment of general residence requirements (e.g. sufficient financial resources, health insurance).
