Erasmus+

Erasmus+ supports education, training, youth and sport in Europe.

What is erasmus+?

Erasmus+ is a funding program of the European Union. The Erasmus program has become the world's largest funding program for stays abroad at higher education institutions.

Program priorities 2021-2027

  • Inclusion and diversity
  • Digital transformation
  • Environment and combating climate change
  • Participation in democratic life, shared values and active citizenship

General information

REQUIREMENTS FOR AN ERASMUS+ STUDY Stay

  • Immatriculation at an eligible higher education institution in Austria.
  • An inter-institutional agreement between the home and host university.
  • Annual application for funding budgets for mobility projects by the home university.
  • The administration and payment of funding for students is carried out directly at the home university.

DURATION OF the STAY abroad

  • Two to twelve months per study cycle (Bachelor, Master, PhD)
  • Combination of multiple stays abroad possible (for example, Erasmus+ internship and Erasmus+ study stay)

ELIGIBLE COUNTRIES

Once you have been nominated by the IRO at the partner university, you can apply for an Erasmus+ grant if your stay will take place in an Erasmus+ program country. The Erasmus+ program countries include the 27 EU member states, including their overseas countries and territories, as well as the following countries:

  • Norway
  • Iceland
  • Liechtenstein
  • the Republic of North Macedonia
  • Serbia
  • Turkey

Inclusion

Equal opportunities are a central concern of the Erasmus+ program. On behalf of the European Commission, the national agency in Austria supports the mobility of students and graduates with fewer opportunities. These individuals can receive a monthly subsidy (top-up) or inclusion support to cover the actual additional costs. The following groups receive additional funding (top-up) as part of student mobility:

  • Persons with a disability or chronic illness, if this results in higher costs abroad.
  • Students with children who take their children with them on the Erasmus+ stay.

INCLUSION SUPPORT

If the top-up is not sufficient for students with fewer opportunities and higher costs are likely to be incurred during the mobility, an application for inclusion support can be made. Additional costs incurred by participants and, if applicable, their companions can be reimbursed on an actual cost basis if the need is clearly justified and the costs are approved by the national agency (case-by-case assessment). There is no automatic right to inclusion support.

The application form is available at the International Relations Office (IRO) and must be submitted at least 8 weeks before the start of the Erasmus+ stay. The higher education institution is responsible for submitting the application to the OeAD.

Application

Information on the allocation of places for study abroad, on Erasmus+ funding and on the application process is provided to outgoing students at information events about a year before the start of the mandatory semester or year abroad. After the information event, students will be given access to the Moodle course “Studying Abroad”. Applications for Erasmus+ funding and the submission of documents are done via Fh.Checkin.

If you have any questions, please contact the International Relations Office.
