Digitalization, sustainability, business and finance at your fingertips - here you and your school class will gain insights into selected research and fields of specialisation of our bachelor's degree programs.
Our workshops offer an exciting alternative to traditional excursions or trips and can be perfectly integrated into project weeks. They also offer supplementary content to the school curriculum with a focus on practical implementation.

SO (UN)SECURE IS THE WORLD WIDE WEB
Pupils learn about security and observation tools and how to protect themselves.

In our workshop, pupils are immersed in the subject area of web security. They learn about security and observation tools that modern websites use to monitor and influence the behavior of users. Examples of this are web tracking technologies, fingerprinting, smart calls to action and recommender systems. In small groups, they analyze their personal internet presence in terms of data protection (privacy) and learn methods and tools to protect themselves better on the internet.
Goal
Pupils will learn about web security and how modern websites influence user behavior, as well as which security and data protection aspects are important.
In the period from 6/23 to 7/24, the workshop was funded by the aws, with resources from the National Foundation for Research, Technology and Development (Austrian Fund), as part of the Knowledge Transfer Center West (WTZ West 3) project.
JUST MAKE IT: FROM DESIGN TO THE FINISHED PRODUCT
Pupils learn to digitize their own sketches and to implement them using modern equipment (laser cutters, 3D printers or milling machines).

In our Just make it workshop, pupils learn how to bring their ideas to life. They sketch design ideas by hand and then implement them digitally using a simple drawing program. With the help of milling machines, 3D printers and laser cutters, they finally hold their own product in their hands. The laser cutter enables them to cut and engrave the objects precisely.
Goal
Pupils develop their own product ideas and gain an understanding of the holistic process of product development. At the same time, they learn practical skills in working with state-of-the-art manufacturing technology.

AUTOMATION IN THE WORLD OF WORK WITH VIRTUAL/AUGMENTED REALITY AND ROBOTICS

In our workshop, pupils gain valuable insights into the design of efficient and digital processes. In the production laboratory and with the help of modern IT systems, they identify the causes of waste and discover optimization potential in operational structures. Working together in teams, they develop innovative solutions to improve business processes. Finally, the pupils work together in the new factory to produce a physical product that they can take with them as a souvenir.
Goal
Pupils develop a deep understanding of operational processes and creative improvement measures. They learn to evaluate procedures in terms of their efficiency and degree of digitalization and develop practice-oriented solution approaches to increase efficiency. This practical application offers a realistic insight into everyday business life.
DIGITALIZATION IN BUSINESS & SOCIETY
Pupils will gain a first insight into the dynamics of digitization using concrete examples. Opportunities will be presented, but dangers will also be critically reflected upon.

In our workshop, pupils experience what digitalization means and how it is fundamentally changing the economy and society! Pupils discuss specific examples, applications and future solutions. The focus is not on technical details, but on the real effects and the transformation of markets and social developments: Why is the city of Kufstein suddenly becoming a competitor of VW? And what does the shortage of kitchen staff have to do with digitalization?
Goal
Pupils gain a first insight into the dynamics of digitization using specific examples. They learn about the opportunities and advantages as well as the dangers and disadvantages of the digital transformation and how to reflect on
SUSTAINABILITY
WAS WÄRE WENN? DER KLIMASIMULATOR
With the help of a simulator, pupils discover how certain influences affect climate development up to the year 2100.

In our workshop, pupils work with the En-ROADS simulator to develop scenarios for limiting global warming. The simulator shows in real time how various measures influence climate development up to the year 2100.
The groups' task is to assess the levers (e.g. taxation of CO2 emissions, etc.) and to calibrate them in such a way that global warming can be limited. Various interest groups are represented in the process.
Goal
Pupils learn about the causality of physical and technical processes. Aspects of environmental justice and the effects on health and lifestyle habits can be addressed, discussed and explored in depth.
EXPERIENCING SUSTAINABILITY: CREATIVE SOLUTIONS TO THE CLIMATE CRISIS
In the workshop, the pupils discover different aspects of the climate crisis and possible solutions at four stations.

Sustainability is experienced up close by the participants in four interactive stations! At the “Change of Perspective” on the world map, topics such as CO2 emissions, income distribution and life expectancy are discussed and the global sustainable goals are reflected upon. In the “Circular Economy Mission”, pupils develop creative ideas for sustainable, recyclable products. A climate-friendly weekly menu is created in a team, whereby it is explored how nutrition influences the carbon footprint and land consumption. In the Escape Game, pupils solve tricky puzzles to find the stolen climate conference documents.
Goal
The aim of the workshop is to enable young people to critically examine the climate crisis in an exciting environment, to foster intensive discussions and discover new perspectives, while actively developing a comprehensive understanding of sustainability through new approaches and ideas.

A BRILLIANT IDEA? A SUCCESSFUL BUSINESS MODEL!
The interactive workshop covers what is needed to identify and assess start-up ideas and how to develop viable and sustainable business models.

In our workshop, pupils learn about the advantages and disadvantages of working in teams and individually. They discover the team phases according to Tuckman and the team roles according to Belbin, explore the importance of communication and deal with the culture in teams. They also take part in practical exercises with subsequent reflection.
Goal
The aim of the workshop is for pupils to reflect on their experiences in teams and learn how to use and optimize teamwork effectively. They will learn when it makes more sense to work individually and discover ways to improve their own and their teammates' ability to work in a team in order to increase motivation and enjoyment when working together.
WHY ARE WE BECOMING DEPENDENT ON SOCIAL MEDIA?
The social media services we use regularly are designed and programmed to make us dependent on them. In the lecture, pupils learn why this is so.

In our workshop, pupils learn why we constantly check our smartphones for news. The lecture explains why and how our brains work and how social media platforms are perfectly aligned with them. After the theoretical input, the participants analyze in the interactive part whether and to what extent they have had similar experiences.
Goal
The aim of the workshop is to explain the mechanisms behind social media addiction to pupils and to show the effects on society. The workshop is designed to raise awareness of this addiction and to show alternatives. Pupils learn why social media offerings are designed to be addictive and how to recognize and manage this influence.
CRITICAL THINKING - ABOUT THE LUXURY OF HAVING YOUR OWN OPINION
Young people in particular tend to simply accept the opinions and statements of others from the internet and social media. But how can pupils gather information and distinguish between reliable and unreliable sources in order to form their own opinion? What mistakes are commonly made here?

In our workshop, pupils learn how to gather information critically and from a variety of sources. They recognize common errors in perception and understand how one-sided information can influence their opinion. Based on the book “Klar-denken” by Woo-kyoung Ahn, we use role-playing to take on different perspectives to promote critical thinking.
Goal
Pupils recognize common errors in thinking and perception and learn how to avoid them. They learn how important it is to form an independent opinion and which methods help them to distinguish between reputable and dubious sources in order to form their own well-founded opinion.
HOW DIGITAL ADVERTISING WORKS
Digital ads are displayed in a targeted manner and auctioned off to the highest bidder. Google & Co make a lot of money from this. The participants will learn how these companies obtain sensitive data and why users get nothing in return.

In our workshop, pupils learn how digital ad space is auctioned off in seconds and how advertisers collect information about users. We shed light on the topic of retargeting and show what personal data is stored. Through interactive elements, participants reflect on how companies obtain this data.
Goal
Pupils learn about the business models of Google and other advertising brokers and are made aware that most of the data disclosed on the internet is used for business purposes. They learn how digital ads are auctioned and targeted, how companies gain access to sensitive data and why users get nothing in return.
FINANCES
INVESTMENT IN REAL ESTATE
Pupils take on a role play in which they learn about the handling, opportunities and risks associated with real estate portfolios and the first rough key figures.

In our workshop, pupils take on the role of real estate investors in a business simulation game. Within a defined period of time, they simulate the purchase and sale of selected real estate. Optional optimizations through renovations or refurbishments are also considered as scenarios.
Goal
Pupils learn how to deal with real estate portfolios and understand the associated opportunities and risks. They get to know the key figures that are relevant for investments and gain their first practical experience in a business simulation game.
BUYING OR RENTING: WHICH IS BETTER?
Pupils acquire basic skills in the areas of financial mathematics, markets and monetary policy in order to assess the advantages and disadvantages of buying real estate.

In our workshop, pupils consider whether buying a property is always a better decision than renting. They learn important terms such as equity, interest rates and maintenance costs. After a general discussion and explanation of these terms, the participants work together to examine a purchase situation using an Excel file. This gives them insight into key decision criteria and teaches them how to conduct financial analyses independently.
Goal
Pupils learn elementary financial mathematics skills to assess the pros and cons of buying real estate. In addition, they gain fundamental knowledge of monetary policy and financial markets, which are closely related to the decision-making situation.
HOW DOES WALL STREET WORK?
How can you estimate as accurately as possible what the future share price trend might be? When is the right time to buy and/or sell?

In our workshop, pupils learn how to analyze the development of share prices and make future forecasts. In doing so, they address questions such as: How can you estimate future price movements as accurately as possible? When is the right time to buy or sell shares?
One possible approach is technical chart analysis, in which price forecasts are created through simple pattern recognition. During the workshop, the basics of charting and selected indicators are presented and discussed in detail using various practical examples. Participants learn how to read charts and how to apply them to their own decision-making criteria and how to carry out financial analyses independently.
Goal
Pupils learn the difference between different analysis techniques (fundamental and technical chart analysis) of stocks. They acquire the ability to independently apply and interpret simple pattern recognitions of technical chart analysis and to apply selected trend indicators and understand their significance in relation to the price development of a stock. This enables them to make a better assessment of the development of stock prices and determine the right time to buy or sell.
THE EURO: SECURITY FEATURES, CASH CYCLE & DIGITAL EURO
A workshop in cooperation with the central bank of the Republic of Austria. Pupils explore the importance and future of cash and learn interactively how to tell the difference between genuine and counterfeit euro banknotes.

How many banknotes are in circulation in the euro area? How does cash get to us? What are payment habits like in Austria? What will become of the digital euro? These and other questions are discussed before the pupils learn about the security features of the euro and actively distinguish between real and fake banknotes. Pupils will explore the significance and the cycle of cash and learn about the planned features and advantages of the digital euro. In addition, participants will be able to distinguish between real and fake banknotes after the workshop.
INTRODUCTION TO SELECTED INVESTMENT OPPORTUNITIES FOR WEALTH BUILDING
Pupils are prepared to continue dealing with the topic of investing independently.

Investing can be fun, too. Pupils get an insight into various investment options, ranging from bank account interest rates and government bonds to gold and other commodities, corporate bonds, stocks, exchange-traded funds (ETFs) and cryptocurrencies. The focus is on financial products available in Germany, Austria and the United States.
Goal
The aim is to be able to use the knowledge gained about investment opportunities to build wealth in the future.
MONEY LIFE: PERSONAL BUDGET PLANNING, CONSUMPTION, GOALS
A workshop in collaboration with the central bank of the Republic of Austria. Pupils solve tasks and escape the “House of Gold” in an imaginary escape room game. In doing so, they deal intensively with financial topics and learn important points for their personal financial lives.

The gold vault under the main building of the central bank of the Republic of Austria is rarely entered by non-bank persons. But this time, the unthinkable happens: a group of pupils are forgotten in the rearmost vault after a video shoot. Now they have to solve tasks on various financial topics in order to get through six rooms to the forecourt of the central bank of the Republic of Austria and into freedom. The tasks are solved in groups in a seminar room. The pupils need their smartphones for the workshop.
Goal
Pupils learn how to get an overview of their financial situation and actively engage with topics relevant to their everyday lives, such as income and expenses, gross and net income, major expense categories, taxes, payments, savings and loans in Austria.
MONETARY POLICY: PRICE STABILITY & KEY INTEREST RATE
A workshop in cooperation with the central bank of the Republic of Austria. Pupils explore the basics of monetary policy and inflation and their significance for their personal lives.

Inflation affects us all: it impacts purchasing power, income, savings and wealth. What causes it? What role is played by the key interest rate, which is set by the Governing Council of the European Central Bank? Pupils take on different roles (Governing Council, consumer, saver, borrower and entrepreneur) and discuss the effects of a key interest rate decision. Pupils will need their smartphone for the workshop.
Goal
Pupils learn about one of the core tasks of central banks in the euro area: maintaining price stability. They look at some of the causes and effects of inflation and learn how inflation can be measured and controlled by the key interest rate.
