Learning outcomes of the courses/module

The students are able to:
• name the essential components and institutions of a national economy and explain how they function.
• identify macroeconomic indicators such as gross domestic product or consumer price index and explain their meaning.
• conduct independent research on indicators important for economic growth and inflation and to present current developments in this regard.
• identify and critically reflect on both the potential and limitations of macroeconomic models.
• evaluate aspects of sustainable recycling management and assess the natural limits of economic development.

Course content

• Interpretation of gross domestic product and consumer price index
• Measurement of economic growth and inflation
• Tasks of central banks in relation to money supply and interest rate setting
• Impact of monetary and fiscal policy
• Aggregated demand and aggregated supply
