Learning outcomes of the courses/module

- Familiarity with language and cultural subtleties will
enable students to foster a positive rapport and build trust
with colleagues across the globe, while enabling them to
gain a competitive edge in any career
- Students will apply gained social knowledge, language
skills, cultural insights, and understanding to their personal
and business-related interactions with individuals and
groups from diverse cultures and language communities at
home or abroad
- Students will achieve a greater understanding and
application of English in the business world and in the
global community overall
- Experiential learning of several major world language
writing systems will facilitate basic understanding during
business travel or correspondence

Course content

This course covers languages, writing systems, and culture around the world, and how understanding more
about them will enable students to effectively communicate and conduct business with multi-cultural
partners in their careers. Students will learn to recognize and read a basic level in several non-Latin alphabets and other writing systems used in major and emerging market economies. Special attention will be given to the English language as used in the United Kingdom, Australia, and the United States of America. Through improved communication and cultural sensitivity, students will build trust with global partners by understanding customs, beliefs, values, communication styles, and social norms.
