During the panel discussion, visitors were given a direct insight into the topic of women in sport and the associated challenges.
Experts discussed challenges and opportunities for women in sport as part of the recurring Contact into the Future event series. The visitors were given a detailed insight into social and structural barriers.
On June 20, the panel discussion Women in Sport - A Future of Equality took place in the “Festsaal” (Festivities Hall) of the Kufstein University. The event, part of the Contact into the Future series, provided a platform to discuss the current challenges and opportunities for women in sport with experts.
The panel discussion was moderated by Angelika Pehab. The renowned speakers included Michael Falkner (Chairman of TI Volley), Romuald Niescher (Head of the City of Innsbruck Sports Department), Petra Russegger (Performance Coach and Women's Officer at the Salzburg Tennis Association) and Katharina Leder (Sports Manager). They shared their diverse experiences and visions, from the promotion of young talent to strategic approaches for more gender equality in sport.
INSIGHTS INTO THE BARRIERS FOR WOMEN IN SPORT
The hour-long discussion provided in-depth insights into the structural and social barriers that women face in sport. Michael Falkner emphasized: “It is necessary to make more female role models in sport visible.” Romuald Niescher emphasized the role of the public sector in supporting women's initiatives. Petra Russegger and Katharina Leder provided valuable practical perspectives and underlined the importance of mentoring and targeted support programs.
Before and after the discussion, participants had the opportunity to exchange ideas over a drinks buffet. After the discussion, a food buffet with finger food catering was offered by Hirschentenne Stams, which rounded off the event and provided further networking opportunities.
The aim of the event was to raise awareness of equal rights in sport and promote exchange between different interest groups. The positive response showed that the topic is highly topical and of great importance. Women in sport - a future of equality was an important step towards more equal opportunities in sport. The Kontakt in die Zukunft event series thus sends out a strong signal for social change and actively supports the advancement of women in sport.
