With the dual degree, students receive a degree from both, the Kufstein University of Applied Sciences and the Schmalkalden University of Applied Sciences.

From the winter semester 2024/2025, it will be possible to complete an international dual degree between the Bachelor's degree program in Industrial Engineering & Management at Kufstein University of Applied Sciences and the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at Schmalkalden University of Applied Sciences.

The Bachelor's degree program in Industrial Engineering & Management at the Kufstein University of Applied Sciences has been cooperating with the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at the Schmalkalden University of Applied Sciences in Germany since 2014. The cooperation between the two universities enables students to obtain an additional Bachelor's degree in Engineering with a specialisation in Technical Management during a two-semester stay at the Schmalkalden University of Applied Sciences. This partnership has now been extended to include a dual degree agreement with the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. In order to obtain this double degree, the students spend their semester abroad and a further semester in Schmalkalden. The final Bachelor's thesis is jointly supervised by both institutes. After successfully completing the program, graduates are awarded the two titles Bachelor of Science (BSc) and Bachelor of Engineering (BEng).

International experience and additional qualifications

"Through the double degree program, graduates gain international experience and acquire additional qualifications that significantly improve their career prospects," explains Prof. (FH) DI Dr. Martin Adam, Head of the Industrial Engineering & Management degree program and responsible for the cooperation. "As a rule, their studies are not delayed either, as all coursework and examinations are mutually recognised. However, students will need an additional seventh semester in Schmalkalden to obtain both degrees instead of the prescribed standard period of study of six semesters at Kufstein University of Applied Sciences."

Additional Deepening in Engineering

The aim for students on the Industrial Engineering & Management degree program at Kufstein University of Applied Sciences is to acquire additional skills in the field of mechanical engineering. This specialisation also enables admission to the Master's programs at the Schmalkalden University of Applied Sciences. After successfully completing the first four semesters in Kufstein, students can apply for the Bachelor's cooperation program and are then invited to a selection process. Once the candidates have been nominated by the Kufstein University of Applied Sciences, they must submit a proper application to the Schmalkalden University of Applied Sciences - the German educational institution decides on admission and acceptance. In the sixth semester, the Kufstein curriculum provides for a work placement, which can also be completed in Schmalkalden, for example at Bosch. Of course, students from Schmalkalden also have the opportunity to complete their dual degree at the FH Kufstein Tirol. For further information, please contact the respective program directors.
