Happy Easter worldwide - the FH Easter Bunny brings international customs to the campus.
Different countries, different customs - even at Easter. Our exchange students talk about fascinating customs: We show how colorfully Easter is celebrated around the world.
In Austria, the Easter bunny, egg hunts and colorful nests are simply part of the celebrations. But how do people celebrate Easter in other parts of the world? Exchange students from the Kufstein UAS have given us exclusive insights into the customs of their home countries. From the lucky egg tapping in Bulgaria to swinging on large wooden swings in Latvia and colorful parades in Mexico - the variety of customs is fascinating.
BULGARIA: HAPPINESS THROUGH EGG BEATING
Easter eggs are an important part of various Easter traditions around the world and also play a major role in Bulgaria. There is a unique tradition there called “Good Luck Crack”, in which people take turns tapping or even throwing Easter eggs at each other. The person whose egg remains unbroken in the end is said to have particularly good luck and success in the coming period.
FRANCE: GIANT OMELETTE IN HAUX
In the French town of Haux, hundreds of people gather on Easter Monday to celebrate Easter with a huge omelette made with over 5,000 eggs. But chocolate eggs as we know them are also very popular in France at Easter. One of the most famous Easter traditions in France is the chocolate egg hunt, where eggs are hidden in the garden and the children have to find them, reports a French exchange student.
LATVIA: EGG ROLLS AND EASTER SWINGS
In Latvia, dyeing eggs at the lecture is an important part of the preparations for Easter. The eggs are dyed with natural materials such as onion skins and red cabbage, explains an exchange student. This is followed by the traditional Easter egg roll, where the eggs are rolled off a wooden structure or a hill and the egg that rolls the furthest wins. Another popular tradition in Latvia is to set up large wooden swings and swing together, the student tells us. This is said to bring good luck, secure the harvest in summer and even protect against mosquito bites.

In Mexico, the streets are decorated with colorful garlands at Easter.
MEXICO: COLORFUL PARADES
In Mexico, Easter is the main holiday season and, along with Christmas, is the most important festival of the year. During this time, the streets are decorated with colorful garlands and in some places people parade through the city with cheerful singing, flute and drum music.
Regardless of how the Easter days are spent, we wish all students of the Kufstein University a happy Easter! Happy Easter! Честит Великден! Joyeuses Pâques! Priecīgas Lieldienas! or also ¡Felices Pascuas!
