Lisa-Maria Schedlberger completed a master's degree in Web Engineering & IT Solutions at the University of Applied Sciences Kufstein Tirol while also working. Her outstanding master's thesis was honoured with the research prize from the Tyrolean Economic Chamber (WKT).
This year's winners of the research prize were announced at a ceremony held at the WKT on 5 December 2024. The research prize is awarded annually for the best master's theses and dissertations from the University of Applied Sciences Kufstein Tirol, the University of Innsbruck and the Management Center Innsbruck (MCI). The award-winning theses received an overall grade of excellent, are characterised by a high level of innovation and strengthen Tyrol as a research location.
RESEARCH AWARD IN THREE CATEGORIES
The research prize is awarded in three categories: natural sciences, technical sciences, and economic and social sciences. The submitted work is assessed according to a catalogue of criteria in which the usability of the research results and the significance of the work for the Tyrolean economy play a central role. Lisa-Maria Schedlberger was honoured in the category of technical sciences for her master's thesis The Essential Human Contribution in Software Engineering Considering the Increasing Use of Generative AI. Her work is dedicated to the role of humans in software development processes in the face of the increasing use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) and provides practical insights into how companies can design the use of these technologies.
AWARD-WINNING MASTER'S THESIS
In terms of content, the master's thesis is characterised by its scientific approach and high practical relevance. ‘In particular, the focus on the transfer of AI applications to companies makes the work highly relevant. It examines where humans cannot be replaced by AI – a crucial aspect in the current discussion,’ emphasises Prof. (FH) Dr. Mario Döller, Rector of the University of Applied Sciences Kufstein Tirol. The work not only highlights innovative application possibilities, but also offers concrete recommendations for companies that want to successfully implement generative AI systems.
HIGH RECOGNITION FOR KUFSTEIN TIROL UNIVERSITY OF APPLIED SCIENCES
‘This success demonstrates the high level of AI skills / competencies that we teach in our degree programs. Awards like this emphasise the relevance of our practice-oriented training,’ emphasises Rector Döller. He also highlights the importance of the assessment criteria: ’Important criteria are always the relevance to Tyrol, the feasibility and the added value for the economy. These standards apply to all submitted papers, which are already of a very high quality anyway.’
The jury passed a number of renowned entrepreneurs, including Nicole Ellinger (Alp Art Hotel), Bernhard Hofer (Cemit GmbH) and Markus Dax (Steka), as well as representatives from higher education institutions, including Gregor Weihs (University of Innsbruck), Anita Zehrer (MCI) and Mario Döller (FH Kufstein Tirol). The award once again highlights the innovative strength and high quality of research at the FH Kufstein Tirol.
