Six dedicated students from the Facility Management & Real Estate degree program at the University of Applied Sciences Kufstein Tirol have successfully completed an important practical project in collaboration with the municipality of Kirchbichl.
The aim of the project was to develop measures for the renovation and energy-efficient improvement of buildings in Kirchbichl and to examine their impact on the heating demand and CO2 emissions of the municipality. As part of the project, students carried out comprehensive analyses to assess the existing buildings in terms of their thermal insulation, heating systems and the possibility of installing photovoltaic systems and heat pumps.
VISIBLE RESULTS AND IMMEDIATE IMPROVEMENTS
The results showed a remarkable renovation rate of 14 percent, which led to a significant reduction in heating demand since 2013. The municipality of Kirchbichl, which is deeply committed to sustainability and reducing CO2 emissions, is benefiting greatly from the students' findings. Andreas Egger, the head of the municipal planning and building control office, was the main point of contact for the project and was always on hand to help the group. Thanks to his support, many technical and organizational challenges were successfully overcome.
The project impressively demonstrates how theoretical knowledge and practice-oriented research at the University of Applied Sciences Kufstein Tirol are intertwined and can lead to direct improvements in regional environmental and energy policy. The students, who played a major role in the analysis and planning, have not only gained valuable practical experience but have also made an important contribution to the sustainable development of the municipality of Kirchbichl.
