The Innsbruck-based company feratel media technologies AG brought students from the bachelor's degree program in Marketing & Communication Management at the University of Applied Sciences Kufstein Tirol into the team for its website relaunch. The students developed SEO texts to help popular webcam locations in Europe gain more visibility.

feratel media technologies AG is one of Europe's leading providers of complete tourism solutions. For over 40 years, the company has been supporting more than 4,000 destinations in the areas of telecommunications, information and reservation systems, as well as media and advertising. A central focus is on the webcams offered, which are installed at tourist locations. They provide impressive live images and up-to-date weather information that help to increase the visibility and attractiveness of the destinations throughout Europe.

Since October 2024, five students have been working on a practical project to optimize the texts for feratel's webcam pages from more than eight countries. The aim was to make the content search engine friendly and thus significantly increase the reach of the webcams. At the same time, feratel's market position as a leading provider should be strengthened. In the process, the students gained a special insight into the diversity of European destinations captured by the webcams.

CLEAR OBJECTIVES AND STRUCTURED PROJECT ORGANIZATION

Mag. Gabriela Huter and Dr. Ines Zitturi of feratel, who were in charge of the project, clearly defined the objectives. As a team, they were to process the 500 most-visited webcam pages, with each student taking responsibility for 100 texts. The work steps were divided into five milestones to allow for regular feedback.

The project offered students valuable insights into online marketing, creative writing and the use of AI tools. They not only learned how AI applications support text creation, but also how to critically question their potential and limitations.

INNOVATIVE USE OF AI TOOLS

To support them in creating the text, students were given the Pro version of ChatGPT to help them cope with the large number of texts.

THE AI TOOL SUPPORTED THE TEXT CREATION BY TAKING REQUIREMENTS SUCH AS THE INTEGRATION OF KEYWORDS INTO ACCOUNT. HOWEVER, WE QUICKLY DISCOVERED THAT THE CONTENT NEEDED TO BE SUBSTANTIALLY REVISED.

OUTLOOK AND PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENT

By the end of the project in February 2025, creating the text for the webcam pages was only part of the entire relaunch of the feratel website. The first results of the relaunch are expected to be visible in the fall of 2025. “The students have done an excellent job,” Gabriela Huter and Ines Zitturi praise. “We will inform them of the results at the end of the project.”
