Students from the Kufstein University won the national competition with their project.

The recipe chatbot developed by five students from the Marketing & Communication Management degree program beat off the competition in the Austrian competition. It combines the two future topics of food waste and artificial intelligence.

As part of Österreichische Post AG's Research Meets Practice initiative, Universities of Applied Sciences from all over Austria compete against each other with project ideas and their implementation. This year's focus was on the field of artificial intelligence. The winning project from Kufstein University, developed by five students from the Marketing & Communication Management degree program, focused on the generation and visualization of cooking recipes using artificial intelligence. In cooperation with Österreichische Post AG and the food retailer MPREIS, a recipe generator was created that could also be integrated as a feature in the MPREIS app in the future. The recipe generator uses the advanced capabilities of Chat GPT 4.0 to create personalized and creative recipes.

“Our project combines two major topics of the future: avoiding food waste with the help of artificial intelligence. Our recipe chatbot is the perfect tool for this,” emphasizes Mona Ritter, spokesperson for the student group.

ACADEMIC RESEARCH MEETS ENTREPRENEURIAL ACTION

Franz Schopf, Head of Sales Advertising, Digital & International at Österreichische Post AG, adds: “In a world that is constantly changing and where competition is becoming ever more intense, it is crucial for companies to stay at the cutting edge of research and translate this knowledge into practical applications. The Research Meets Practice initiative is a shining example of how academic research and entrepreneurial action can go hand in hand to achieve breakthrough results. The triangular relationship between Swiss Post, the University of Applied Sciences and industry is a central element of this initiative. The advantages of the collaboration are manifold and offer added value to all parties involved. Practice-oriented research, effective knowledge transfer, innovation promotion, talent development, shared use of resources, public visibility and market-related solutions are just some of the key benefits created by this synergy. The quality of the UAS projects was convincing. We congratulate the students from Kufstein University, who impressed us with their innovative and fresh approach.”

A total of seven projects were reviewed and assessed by a jury of experts. The winning project was finally selected on June 27, 2024 as part of a hybrid event in the Trompetensaal at Post AG.
