The Rector of Kufstein University, Prof. (FH) Dr. Mario Döller (l.) and WK Vice President Martin Wetscher (r.) congratulated Tobias Krempl on his research award in the Economics and Social Sciences category.

This year's winners of the research award were chosen on December 6, 2023 in a festive ceremony in the “Festsaal” (Festivities Hall) of the WKT in Innsbruck. Every year, the research prize is awarded to the best master's theses and dissertations from the University of Applied Sciences Kufstein Tirol, the University of Innsbruck and the Management Center Innsbruck (MCI). The award-winning diploma theses, master's theses and dissertations received an excellent overall grade, are characterized by a high level of innovation and strengthen Tyrol as a research location.

RESEARCH PRIZE IN THREE CATEGORIES

The research prize is awarded in three categories - natural sciences, technical sciences and economic and social sciences. The submitted work was assessed according to a list of criteria in which the utilization of the research results and the significance of the work for the Tyrolean economy play an important role. Tobias Krempl's master's thesis focused on the relevance of the product carbon footprint for sustainability reporting: Theoretical calculation of product emissions in the make-to-order process. His thesis was awarded a prize in the economics and social sciences category and deals with the highly topical issue of emissions from a product creation process.

THE AWARD-WINNING MASTER'S THESIS

In terms of content, the master's thesis is characterized by its scientific approach, its high practical relevance and a clearly visible further research potential in this area. The prizewinner's work demonstrated a sound understanding of the challenges that companies face, particularly as a result of the introduction of the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD). Tobias Krempel analyzed the challenges of the CSRD and presented understandable solution approaches that are useful for both research and practice. According to the jury, the proposed solution approaches are already demonstrable in the work and are excellent and directly implementable. The work makes a significant contribution to the development of sustainable economic models and higher profitability through the use of suitable production methods.
