  • Opening Annual Conference 2024
    09:20 - 09:45
    Prof. (FH) Dr. Markus Exler

We had ambitious plans for our 13th company conference on the topics of transformation and turnaround.

The idea of experience mobility should make it clear that we as a society have to manage the balancing act between new mobility concepts and a traditional production structure in the automobility industry. Currently, the OEMs are still making real money, while the suppliers have to face the challenges of a “dual transformation”, i.e. the existing business model has to be optimized and innovations generated. On the other hand, in urban areas, the citizen must be the focus again, but the transport infrastructure in rural areas must be expanded in a meaningful way. All of this has to be reconciled.

NEW MOBILITY SHAPES NEW SPACES

Mobility means flexibility and independence, anywhere, anytime. This is changing the spaces in which we live and work. A new game of mobility is beginning that is sustainable, inclusive and safe. Rural areas benefit from it just as much as cities, because the actors have understood that access to mobility is the key to the usage of their offers. Only the gas station is unlikely to survive this transformation process and will develop into a charging or mobility hub, supermarket or a museum of the fossil world.

Navigating change, restructuring and turnaround in the mobility industry

We have been waiting for it for a long time, the wave of insolvencies in the automotive supply industry. Since the end of 2023, it seems that the time has come and since then, several well-known suppliers have already filed for bankruptcy. In the presentation, our colleagues analyze exogenous and endogenous causes for this development and also discuss some of the results of the joint restructuring study on the supply industry, which Berylls and Keyplayer are publishing this year. The core fields of action that companies in the industries should consider in order to survive successfully in times of change in the mobility industry are also identified.

HOW FINANCIAL INVESTMENTS SUPPORT THE TRANSFORMATION OF THE BUSINESS MODEL AT PORSCHE

OEMs need to adapt and initiate the transformation, despite the currently good earnings situation. The challenges are the electrification of the vehicle fleet, changes in usage behavior (less product, more mobility, more “in-car” content), the car and its data, global trends (political instability, access to raw materials, supply chain stability) and the big question of what will happen to the combustion engine.

MOBILITY TALK: THE CHANGED UNDERSTANDING OF MOBILITY AND THE IMPACT ON THE AUTOMOBILE INDUSTRY

After the morning session, we will have learned a great deal about traditional and modern mobility in our lectures. In the afternoon, our host and moderator, Markus Exler, will bring together the different perspectives. Three 20-minute keynote speeches will constructively supplement the discussion. We will ask:

  • How can mobility be organized in the future?
  • What are the current technical challenges?
  • What is the situation for OEMs and automotive suppliers?
  • What social impacts do we expect?

  • Realization rates under pressure: The effects of measures are being realized to a lesser extent

  • There is a lack of management: Experts miss leadership and management in the implementation phase.
