On 17. May 2025, the KufTrail UAM will celebrate its premiere in Kufstein. As the official university championship, the trail run event sets new standards in university sports and continues the successful collaboration with Unisport Austria. Participants can expect two challenging routes with up to 14 kilometers and 800 meters of altitude up to the city's landmark mountain, the Stadtberg.

The KufTrail Unisport Austria Championship (KufTrail UAM) will take place for the first time as a trail running event in 2025. Participation is open to students from all over Austria, as well as hobby runners and ambitious trail runners.

Previously, a ski and snowboard competition had been organized under the name TASC-UAM, which was also supported by Unisport Austria as an official university championship. With the KufTrail UAM, the event is now taking on a completely new direction. The new concept focuses on trail running and lays the foundation for a sporting tradition in Kufstein.

Students in the bachelor's degree program in Sport, Culture & Event Management at the University of Applied Sciences Kufstein Tirol are organizing the event as part of a practical project. Unisport Austria and the Genussmittel association, as the event organizers, are supporting the implementation. The goal is to establish a challenging trail run championship that both challenges experienced runners and attracts new enthusiasts to the sport.

DOES THE TARGET GROUP TAKE ON THE CHALLENGE?

Participants can choose between two distances. The UAM Trailrun Sprint covers seven kilometers with 400 meters of elevation, while the UAM Trailrun Classic covers 14 kilometers with 800 meters of elevation. The start and finish are in the city park in front of the FH Kufstein Tirol. Both routes run over the Stadtberg and offer runners a challenging backdrop with an impressive panorama.

AN EVENT FOR THE ENTIRE COMMUNITY

The practice project team worked intensively on planning and organizing the event during the winter semester of 2024/2025. Since there were no existing structures, the entire event had to be designed from scratch – from official approvals to route selection.

EARLY COORDINATION WITH THE AUTHORITIES FACILITATES IMPLEMENTATION, STRUCTURED DOCUMENTATION OF ALL RECORDS AND PROCESSES ENSURES CLARITY, AND REGULAR TEAM MEETINGS IMPROVE COORDINATION. Since the workload is high, a targeted distribution of tasks within the team can help to relieve the pressure.

Theresia Wurm, representative of the group, summarizes the most important lessons .

For the students, the KufTrail UAM project is more than just a university event. Their goal is to actively involve not only running enthusiasts but also spectators, creating a unique, collaborative atmosphere. To this end, a visitor area is being set up in the city park with live commentary, DJ music, and a wide range of culinary offerings.

When the summer semester of 2025 begins, the project will enter the crucial phase of implementation. The project group currently expects around 100 participants, who can look forward to an exciting race and a thrilling event for the entire region.
