The jurors of this year's Young Scientist Energy Award were able to review a total of 50 works this year.

An expert jury consisting of jurors from the Energy & Sustainability Management and Facility Management & Real Estate Management degree programs once again presented the already established Young Scientist Energy Award to young researchers this year.

The Young Scientist Energy Award (YSEA), which has been presented annually since 2017, honors pre-scientific work such as technical papers, diploma theses or seminar theses that deal with topics in the fields of energy, sustainability and the environment and have been prepared with care and meticulousness. A total of 56 applicants from Germany and Austria submitted their work. An expert jury assessed them and awarded a total of seven works with an award. Unusually this year, all of the award winners were female.

The works ranged from hot topics such as plastic pollution of the soil and its effect on plant growth and confirmation of benzopheone - a dangerous decomposition product in old sun creams - to pioneer Iceland, a climate-neutral country through geothermal energy, to pitch as a valuable component of modern life, which deals with the almost extinct craft of pitching (resin winnowing). The difficulty for the judges passed in selecting the best from the wide range of high quality pre-scientific work. “We were fascinated by the different ideas and the diversity of the topics submitted. The students take up current topics and rise to the challenges,” said jury member and Director of Studies for Energy & Sustainability Management and Facility Management & Real Estate Management, Asc. Prof. (FH) Dipl.-Ing. Christian Huber.

AWARD CEREMONY IN KUFSTEIN

Students from a wide range of school types traveled to Kufstein for the award ceremony, including from Munich, Leogang and Graz.  In addition to the prize money of 250 euros, FH Kufstein Tirol also expressed its appreciation for the work carried out at the schools. “The schools know exactly what content and skills / competencies they need to pass on to their graduates and are very successful in doing so. Practical orientation based on a solid foundation of knowledge stands out in all the work submitted. We also see this every day when dealing with our first-year students,” says Huber. The schools of the award winners will receive recognition as a YSEA Partner School 2024 in the form of a commemorative plaque.
